Can I submit a payment request in USD?
Not yet. Malipay v1 supports RMB payment requests only. USD support may come in a later release.
Which countries does Malipay support?
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Source currencies KES, UGX and TZS. Destination: China (RMB).
Who is Malipay for?
Importers, traders, SMEs and individuals paying suppliers, sourcing agents, factories, consolidators or freight contacts in China.
What documents do I need?
A supplier invoice or proforma invoice is required. A supplier payment instruction, purchase order, business certificate, or ID may be useful but are not always mandatory.
Can I pay a supplier by Alipay or WeChat Pay?
Yes. Select the appropriate receiving method on the form and provide the supplier's Alipay ID or WeChat ID. Chinese bank accounts are also supported.
Do I need an account?
No. Submit a request and track it using your unique tracking link or by entering your request code plus the last 4 digits of your phone number.
How does the RMB estimate work?
The calculator multiplies the RMB amount you enter by an indicative KES/UGX/TZS rate Malipay refreshes during business hours. We show the rate value and the timestamp it was captured. The estimate is for planning only — the final amount you pay is confirmed in writing after Malipay reviews your request, and may differ if the market moves or your supplier changes the amount. Malipay does not charge a separate service fee; the rate you see is the price.
How long does a request take?
Our team reviews requests during business hours (Mon–Sat 08:00–18:00 EAT). Typical first response within 1–2 business hours. Total time to completion depends on the partner rail used and the completeness of documentation.
How much does Malipay charge?
Malipay does not charge a separate service fee. The cost to you is the local-currency amount derived from the rate Malipay confirms after review. A quote with the exact KES/UGX/TZS amount is prepared and sent to you before any settlement.
Is Malipay licensed?
Malipay v1 does not itself move customer funds. Reviewed requests are handed off to licensed payment or remittance partners where applicable. We do not claim to be licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya in v1.
What happens if my supplier rejects the payment?
If a payment is returned or rejected, we contact you on WhatsApp within one business day and work with you to correct the receiving details or refund where applicable.
How is my data protected?
Your data is processed by Elimn Limited under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019. Uploaded documents are stored privately and only accessed by Malipay staff reviewing your request. See our Privacy notice for details.
Can I cancel a request?
Yes — before the request enters Processing, you can cancel by replying to our WhatsApp message or messaging us via your tracking page.
Can someone else submit on my behalf?
Yes. Sourcing agents can submit on behalf of a client. Include the client reference in the notes field.
